Thanksgiving in March?

I have had much anxiety over what to talk about in my first “real” post. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but I’ve always worried that mine wouldn’t measure up to some of the other Mommy blogs that I read. But, what I also know is that each of these blogs started with a first post and I’m sure that they were as anxious over theirs as I am mine.

We are getting new carpet in our bedrooms this week, so we have been doing some major decluttering in preparation for moving all of our furniture. While going through some papers in my dresser cabinet, I ran across something that I thought might be a perfect beginning to my story.

This past Thanksgiving we were asked by our Pastor to write a few paragraphs about a big thing that happened in our lives 5 years ago. He asked 8-10 other families to do the same thing about specific events in their lives. For our Thanksgiving service he had us stand up and he read our words to the congregation. Our Church has grown a lot over the last few years and he thought that would be a great way for the older members and the new members to learn a little about each other.

This is what we wrote:

We are thankful that God is always faithful to answer our prayers. They may not be answered in the way that you originally plan, but they are always answered perfectly in His time.

The blessings that God poured down on our home for 20 years are too numerous to list, but there was one prayer that had not been answered, and that was for a child. We had prayed for so long that we began to think that Gods answer was no.

We discussed adoption, but wasn’t sure if it was right for us, but then we started getting information about successful adoptions from the country of Kazakhstan. The more we learned, the more we felt that Gods answer to our prayer was waiting in that country.

We would have never expected that God would send us half-way around the world to meet a little girl who would be so perfect for our family, but He did. He showed us over and over that this was His will for our lives. 20 years of infertility were erased in the instant that the Doctor placed Hannah in our arms and there is not a day that goes by that we are not reminded of how great our God is and that His answer wasn’t “no”, it was just “not yet”. This year, one of the things that we are most thankful for is our family that God so lovingly and perfectly put together.

What a great life we’ve had thus far, full of ups and downs, but mostly ups. I am very blessed to have such a wonderful, wise husband and a beautiful, spirited daughter. If you want to know more about our adoption trip, you can read it by clicking right here. Thank you so much for stopping by, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Welcome

Hi Everyone!

I want to take a moment and welcome you to my site. It has been a long time in the making and I am very excited to begin journaling. I will do my best to make this a fun and interesting site. I have fallen in love with several Mommy bloggers, and they have inspired me to give it a go. Some of the things that you can expect me to journal about are my family, my faith, cooking, my favorite books, and my favorite TV shows. Please come back often and hang out with us.
